Description: This invention provides methods for characterizing thyroid tissue by detecting the gene expression levels for certain genes, such as kallikrein 10 and claudin 1, among others. This provides a novel approach for detecting thyroid carcinomas by detecting altered gene expressions in thyroid tissue samples (relative to expression levels in normal thyroid tissues). Furthermore, the level of specific gene expression can be used to discriminate between the different types of thyroid cancer e.g., papillary versus follicular.|
