Case Number 112120 - Synergistic Production of Both Biogas and Algae

Description:  Biogas production—the use of anaerobic bacteria to break down organic waste for the production of methane—is a $17 billion worldwide industry.

Microalgae products are a $5 billion worldwide industry. Algae is produced commercially as a precursor to health food products, fish and animal feed, and biodiesel and other biofuels.

A team led by Timothy Keener, Professor of Engineering for the University of Cincinnati, has combined these two processes in a single plant, so that pH and other operational factors, and costs, can be optimized. Come see for yourself by arranging a visit to the pilot plant being built on the university’s campus.
